Also Saw the Spirit
So heading into Frank Miller’s The Spirit, I think I went in with the perfect frame of mind. I have never read any of Will Eisner’s The Spirit, and planned to not take this movie seriously at all. And I have to say for the most part it worked. At least if you think a mostly OK movie experience could be considered “worked.” The movie is pretty much what the trailers convey....

My City Screams
I saw the Spirit. It sucked, but not exactly in the ways I thought it would. There are parts you’ll like, and parts that will make ya bored. More later. <3 Mason

Back From the Holidays
OK so after being sick before Christmas, and then driving 3 1/2 hours to Springfield, IL to see my wife’s family, I am finally back and ready to get back to posting on all things comics, movies, and TV. Unlike Mason, no one actually bought me comics for Christmas. However I did get season one of Robot Chicken which is one of my favorite shows, and a must for any geek. I also got Wii...

Don't call me Merry.
Christmas is over so we should be back to normal posting standards. Yeah yeah, I know, who knew we had standards? I have nothing to really post right now. I’ve been at families houses for the past few days and unfortunately those trips had nothing to do with comics, video games or anything else cool. I should have posts coming up based on some of my presents though! Comics I got: Local, Sloth...

Sexiest Men in Comics: Frank Miller
A young Frank Miller. Meow. My favorite part of this picture, the sign that says, “Please don’t ask me to draw any X-Men (x-cept Kitty).”

Adendum to Geeky Things to Look Forward to in 2009
Through all the hype all year in 2008 I forgot about possibly the most anticipated Geek movie possible, at least for comic geeks. Watchmen for god sakes! And no I didn’t choose to omit this because of some silly geek protest that it won’t be as good as the comics, I just plain forgot. I am totally looking forward to it and I really hope it doesn’t suck. I’m putting some...

A Review
So I haven’t seen Punisher: War Zone, but I’m going to review it anyways. First of all, it stars Ray Stevenson (King Arthur, Life Line and plenty of other movies I’ve never freakin’ heard of). Now I got nothin’ against Ray, except for one thing: He ain’t Thomas Jane. Now, don’t get me wrong, Thomas Jane’s Punisher movie sucked balls, but he was...

You da man Charlie Brown!
Yo, bitch! When’s the last time you watched yourself some Charlie Brown Christmas? Has it been awhile? Is your memory of this wonderful creation as good as the actual product? Maybe! I forgot how bitchy all the characters are, not bitchy in a child-like way, but bitchy in an adult-like way. But ain’t tha part of the charm? Yeah, I guess so, adult-like kids who have the same weight...

Geeky Things to Look Forward to in 2009
2008 is coming to a close, and it’s been a good year for comics and TV, and a great year for movies. But now it’s time to look at 2009 and all the geeky goodness that I’ll be looking forward to. In no particular order. 1. The final season of Battlestar Galactica Many people have complained of ups and downs in the series, but it still remains in my opinion one of the best shows...

Something new for the Holidays
We’ve all seen the usual holiday comics that the companies put out every year. I’ve never really paid much attention to these books, but I have to say that I did enjoy this year’s DCU Holiday Special 2008 I know some, maybe even many people will have a problem with the fact that DC chose to incorporate traditional stories we recognize with its superheroes. But I found several...

More on the ladies...
Did you guys read Sexy Chix? It’s two years old now, and who knows if it’s in print, but it’s pretty awesome. I ask not because I want to talk about how awesome Sexy Chix is, even though it’s all-female cast is awesome, but because of one particular artist that was in it: Joelle Jones. Joelle Jones’ beautiful art in one of the stories in Sexy Chix, a rough,...

Well shit...
I have to make a bit of an addendum to my “top 3 books” comment in a post last week. I had a momentary lapse of retardery and forgot that Ex Machina not only existed, but is and has been for awhile, my favorite monthly title. The list is: Ex Machina Scalped Invincible With DMZ taking the number 4 spot. Sorry. With that said, I just read Ex Machina 40 and it was pretty awesome....

Her Final Frontier
A sad day yesterday, with the passing of Majel Roddenberry, the world of Star Trek has lost it’s heart. To many she may have not had the notoriety of Shatner, Nimoy, or even Marina Sirtis, but she’s been there since the beginning of Star Trek and as the voice of the Enterprise, she’ll be heard in J.J. Abrams’ version as well. Hopefully they’ll find a way to include...

Let's hear it for the ladies!
I mentioned Girls with Slingshots (GWS) before, but now I’m actually going to talk about it. GWS is yet another amazing web comic by another talented woman, Danielle Cosetto. The art is top notch and, though cartoony like any strip, clearly has it’s roots in the life drawings she does, which you can also see on her website. Her strips, typically about a woman in her mid-twenties, are...

Not Satanic Underwear
OK, so Mason is by far the authority on web comics for the Geekocracy. However, I do want to take the time to share one of the few that I read from time to time. I consider myself to be a somewhat large fan of Jennie Breeden’s The Devil’s Panties. Like many web comics it’s usually done in 1 to 3 panel strips which are easy to read when you only have a few minutes, or if you...

Blackest Night
So according to Dan Didio, anyone who is dead in the DC Universe could be a Black Lantern, when the Blackest Night storyline hits next July. So that begs the question as to who exactly we’re going to see as a Black Lantern. My theories: Abin Sur: Former Green Lantern, and the one who chose his successor to be Hal Jordan. This could definitely create some drama with Hal and other former...

Webcomics
Webcomics I read regularly: Penny-arcade PvP Three Panel Soul Joe Loves Crappy Movies Girls With Slingshots There’s more I read, but these are the ones I check multiple times a week. Only one female in the bunch, maybe I need to fix that.

Not much of a Milestone
It’s good to finally be back posting again after a short hiatus. I do have a holiday theme post planned like Mason did, but I’m not ready for that just yet. Instead I’m gonna make a quick response to the introduction of Milestone characters into the DC Universe. My response is that I don’t really care. I mean other than Static, I really have no interest in any of the...

Happy Holidays!
When I used to work in the retail business, which I suppose was not long ago at all, customers used to lean in close to  me and say, “It’s ok, you can say it,” after I told them to have a happy holiday. For those of you who don’t get it, the customer was trying to get me to say merry christmas, but on the down low, you know, in case the P.C. nazis were listening. Well,...

Where have you been?
Listen, I know I haven’t been around. None of us have. And this post? Well, it’s not going to be a real post, just a little, itty, bitty somethin’ somethin’ to get me started, to work up to the big posts again. Some quick notes: - Invincible has made it into my top 3 favorite titles (Scalped and DMZ are 1 and 2). I’ve always enjoyed it immensely but the last few...
