Revisiting “A Simple Man with Simple Plans”
Posted by rudyhernandezOK so back on October 13, 2008 I wrote about the 5 things I’d like to see from DC and 5 things I’d like to see from Marvel. Well I’d like to take a moment to do some updating because it looks like there have been some developments on those fronts and within only a month at that.
So on the DC side the first three topics I wrote on haven’t seen much change lately. However when you get to number 4.
“Get a top notch writer and director for the Wonder Woman movie and get it cast already. I know things didn’t work out with Joss Whedon, but that was ages ago. There are tons of girls and young women who deserve a great female super hero on the big screen. They certainly didn’t get it from Elektra or Catwoman that’s for sure.”
Well it looks like the rumor mill is reporting that McG, god I hate that name…sounds like what I get for drive-thru, may be signing on to direct Wonder Woman. You may know him from such movies as Charlie’s Angels, We Are Marshall, and the upcoming Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins. And he was actually attached to Superman Returns before Bryan Singer ended up with it. So we have a name and a decently large name. So if this ends up being the case, good for DC and WB. At least you’re trying.
Now for #5 on the DC side
“Say what you want about Smallville, but the show has been pretty successful. DC tried to do the same thing in the Batman universe with Birds of Prey, but I think this was the wrong direction. Sure DC doesn’t feel comfortable using Batman himself as the star, so use the next best thing, Nightwing. I think with good writers, and there’s plenty of them out there doing both TV and comics, a live action Nightwing series could be a pleasant surprise.”
Well it looks like this one’s really gonna work out in my favor because CW is going to begin production on a pilot for The Graysons. Pre Robin Dick Grayson stuff just like I was asking for. Thanks DC, now just don’t screw it up.
And on the Marvel side
We had a development alright. Just not in quite the direction I was talking about.
#3
“Make sure the Avengers movie has all the same actors from the other Marvel movies. I want to see the same actors playing Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America that will be in their own films. This will probably be the case and therefore I probably have nothing to worry about. Unless all the sudden Robert Downey Jr decides he’s had enough of playing Tony Stark. That would look awful to have a different actor after all that.”
Well they still have Robert Downey Jr, which is great. But I’m sure you’ve all heard by now that Terrence Howard has been replaced by Don Cheadle in the role of Jim Rhodes. At first I was all “what the hell, how could they do this to Terrence Howard?” Then the stories started to leak out that Howard was already being paid a lot of money and that he was difficult on the set. I guess we’ll never know for sure, but as far as Don Cheadle coming aboard, welcome sir. Great actor. It’ll look weird for the first 5 minutes, but I’m sure things will be just fine. So I guess you can make changes in the secondary characters, but no more Marvel. Let’s keep it together shall we?
So I guess we’ll see what happens with the rest of my 10 wishes as the months roll on by. And not only that, I have more wishes on the horizon.
