Not much of a Milestone

Posted by rudyhernandez

It’s good to finally be back posting again after a short hiatus. I do have a holiday theme post planned like Mason did, but I’m not ready for that just yet. Instead I’m gonna make a quick response to the introduction of Milestone characters into the DC Universe.

My response is that I don’t really care. I mean other than Static, I really have no interest in any of the Milestone characters. But I hear that there’s at least a few people out there that actually do care. Not only care, but care very deeply about characters like Icon, Hardware and Xombi.

Now I suppose this is a good thing from the standpoint of Dwayne McDuffie, who was the co-creator of Static. I can understand why he would want to see his old characters fighting along side the Teen Titand and the JLA. But frankly, I just think this is more lack of creativity on the part of DC. Let’s not use new characters that we’ve created over the past couple years like the ones that Grant Morrison created such as the Great Ten. Let’s instead dig up some older characters that most people stopped caring about back in the 90s.

I read the Teen Titans so I’ll be reading when Static joins and actually look forward to it. But this is mostly due to the fact that I though it was awesome when the brought him into the Justice League Unlimited cartoon. But who knows? Maybe they’ll be fine additions to the DCU and people won’t think of Icon as the Black Superman, but as a character who brings his own greatness to comics. And maybe Hardware is actually better than his name would lead us to believe.

I’m not gonna hold my breath.
