More on the ladies…
Posted by themasonDid you guys read Sexy Chix? It’s two years old now, and who knows if it’s in print, but it’s pretty awesome. I ask not because I want to talk about how awesome Sexy Chix is, even though it’s all-female cast is awesome, but because of one particular artist that was in it: Joelle Jones.
Joelle Jones’ beautiful art in one of the stories in Sexy Chix, a rough, pencil-like style, prompted me to go out in the world in search for more of her art. The first thing I found was Twelve Reasons Why I Love Her, a book Joelle did with Jamie S. Rich.

As I expected, it was awesome. In this case we got to see more refined work, inks on top of her pencils, and this work was just as amazingly awesome-tastic as her work in Sexy Chix. It’s very simple, but the shapes of her characters and their characteristics seem very real, and the way they move seems very organic. I wish I knew more about art so I could compliment her more intelligently, that’s how much I like her art.
Then I forgot about her. Until today that is. I see that she was lucky enough to get in on one of the Minx titles, Token, so I guess I’ll order that from my comic shop right… now (hopefully I can). I also see she’s working on another book with Jamie S. Rich, which by itself is awesome, but looking further I notice it’s a hard-boiled, crime book. I’m sold, the moment that comes out I’m buying it.
So yeah, go out and read something drawn by Joelle Jones. You won’t regret it.
