Geeky Things to Look Forward to in 2009
Posted by rudyhernandez2008 is coming to a close, and it’s been a good year for comics and TV, and a great year for movies. But now it’s time to look at 2009 and all the geeky goodness that I’ll be looking forward to.
In no particular order.
1. The final season of Battlestar Galactica
Many people have complained of ups and downs in the series, but it still remains in my opinion one of the best shows out there. At least when they actually show it. Now I’ve actually loved every season of BSG and I can’t wait to see how the ride ends.
2. J.J. Abrams Star Trek
The casting seems great and with J.J. Abrams and his stable of great writers at the helm, I think we can expect at the very least a really good movie. I however am expecting greatness so I could be setting myself up for a real letdown. I’ll definitely make my opinions known when I see it.
3. DC’s Blackest Night
Geoff Johns has been building to this moment for two years now and the Green Lantern franchise has never been stronger. Johns has become the best writer DC has consistently issue after issue. Mind you I said DC, this is not including Vertigo (so you Jason Aaron fans can relax now). We’ve already seen the creation of a Sinestro Corps with Yellow Lanterns, a war, use of lethal force from the Green Lanterns, a new Ion, and even more colors of the Lantern spectrum. What are we going to see next? DC has promised us the dead will rise as the prophecy once written by Alan Moore will finally come to pass.
4. New Harry Potter movie
I’m a huge Potter fan and with no new books on the horizon, Tales of Beadle the Bard not withstanding, a new movie is always reason to rejoice. Once again we’ll be able to dream that humans can live in a magical world of potions, delivery owls, and wizardry. I loved my Fenwick High School years, but what I wouldn’t give to have gone to Hogwarts.
5. More Old Man Logan
Wolverine 50 years in the future riding around with blind Hawkeye in a villain ruled future has been my absolute favorite storyline of 2008. I mean come on they’re riding across country in the Spider-buggy! And each little reveal such as what’s become of certain heroes, and who the new president is have been well scripted. The only problem is that like most things that I’m enjoying right now, it never comes out on a consistent basis.
Honorable Mention (blind hope)
The conclusion of Ultimate Hulk vs Wolverine
Come on guys. It’s been years, you’ve only put out 2 issues so far, let’s get the done already.
So that’s it so far. I’m sure there are many things that I will be looking forward to that didn’t get mentioned here, and I’ll be bringing you those as well in the new year. So enjoy what we have left of 2008 and get ready for geekdom to shine in 2009!
