Mark Millar’s Dark Knight Returns
Posted by rudyhernandezWell it’s not quite as ground breaking as Frank Miller’s Batman opus from the 80s, but the “Old Man Logan” storyline in Wolverine does have its similarities. It takes place 50 years in Logan’s future, where we see a much older looking, white haired former hero. And like DKR it seems to be a possible future of the Marvel Universe, but most likely exists out of current continuity.
I’ve been enjoying every minute of this ride that Mark Millar and Steven McNiven have been leading us on. It’s supposed to be a monthly, but almost every issue has been late. And you know what? It’s actually been worth the wait. In a world where the heroes have all lost and America is divided amongst the villains, Millar created a landscape that looks like it came out of Mad Max. And Logan rides along shotgun in the Spider Buggy alongside a blink Hawkeye who is somehow married to Spider-Man’s black daughter. Each issue reveals a little bit more of how this world came to be and why Logan has forever put the claws away and given up being Wolverine.
Right now it’s the comic I look forward to the most every month (whenever it comes out anyway) and that’s something I thought I would never say about any Wolverine comic. So go read it. I assure you, you’ll have the most fun in the future you can have without Marty McFly and a Delorean.
