Answers From Dan DiDio
Posted by rudyhernandezSo for those of you who read Newsarama, you’ve probably seen that Dan DiDio of DC fame has a column much like the Cup o Joe columns that Joe Quesada does for the same website called 20 Answers with Dan DiDio. It’s a chance for readers to get their questions answered by the head man of DC himself. At least some of the questions that Dan is willing to answer. And I’d like to address a few of those answers that Dan DiDio has given us.
When asked about whether Flash fans would be happy with Wally’s role with Barry Allen returning in Flash Rebirth. Dan responded by saying that Wally will be treated with the same respect that Kyle was treated with during Green Lantern Rebirth. Well Kyle does have a better role now as a member of the Corps on OA, but I really hope this doesn’t mean they’re going to kill Wally’s wife and kids so that he’s forced to move away and start over as Kid Flash from some other city. Hopefully it will mean a strong role in a group of Flashes with Barry at the lead.
When asked about the idea of Batman using a gun in Final Crisis, Dan responded by saying that Batman would do anything it takes to win. And if that means using a gun as a weapon when there’s no other good option, then he’s going to use a gun. I have to say I agree with the use of the gun. However, this does seem to open the question that if the only option to win is by killing someone, that Batman would kill. I really hope the writers don’t put Batman in this position. One of the central concepts of Batman is that he doesn’t kill. And I would like to see it stay that way.
And finally Dan DiDio addressed the idea of late shipping books. Dan says that they will not solicit a book that is not in a state of completion that will allow for it to maintain it’s schedule. And for those that are already showing problems with late shipping, that artists will be replaced if they can’t meet their deadlines. He has already shown this with Final Crisis as he yanked JG Jones. I do applaud this stance. However I would like DC to take things a step further and not put artists like JG Jones on a project this big when he has no previous track record of taking on a project of this magnitude. Don’t just take a hard stance on fixing the existing problems, anticipate the potential problem and avoid it in the first place.
So good luck Dan. We’ll see these pan out in the coming months.
